Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald is continuing to garner head coaching interest.

The Atlanta Falcons have submitted a request to interview Macdonald for their head coaching opening, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter added that the Los Angeles Chargers have also requested permission to speak to Macdonald, bringing the total to five teams that are eyeing the defensive-based coach. The Tennessee Titans, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Panthers each have also issued a request to touch base with him.

Atlanta is also seeking to speak to Ravens assistant coach Anthony Weaver regarding its head coaching vacancy.

The Falcons are on the lookout for a replacement for Arthur Smith, who they parted ways with on Monday. Smith served as Falcons head coach in the last three years, and he logged a 7-10 record in each season.

Macdonald is in his second season as defensive coordinator for the Ravens. He has anchored a Ravens defense that capped off regular season play by leading the NFL in points per game allowed (16.5) and takeaways (31). On Weaver’s part, he has closely worked with multiple defensive linemen this year, including Justin Madubuike, who led all Ravens players in sacks (13.0) during the regular season.

The Titans, Commanders, Panthers, Chargers, and Falcons all currently can not conduct in-person interviews with Macdonald. Macdonald did confirm on Thursday that he has already spoken to several teams via Zoom.
