Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce were quite the trio for years. They carried the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl LIV over the 49ers 31-20.
Now, on different sidelines, Hill will meet Kelce and Mahomes for the second time this season when the Miami Dolphins travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs on Saturday night in what are expected to be frigid conditions.
According to Hill on Thursday, they haven't spoken much since the Chiefs beat the Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany 21-14 on November 5, 2023.
“Well, I haven’t texted Mahomes since they beat our ass. I texted Kelce but he still hasn’t texted me back. He’s probably still on his Taylor Swift thing. But yeah man, those guys are too famous for me now, I guess."
Meanwhile, Kelce was a little more positive about sharing the field again with his old teammate on Saturday night, peace signs excepted.
""I expect KC to give him (Tyreek Hill) nothing but love until he's putting up a peace sign or something like that," Kelce said. "Then he might hear a few boos, but who he was for this community speaks volumes. Every single kids camp he had, he made an effort to go out and shake those hands and give those kids an experience they'll never have again. That's why Tyreek is loved in this city and will forever be loved in this city because of who he was off the field in this community.
"It's going to be electric just to see him. He's always one of the best football players in the league when he's on the field."
It also didn't hurt Hill's reputation in Kansas City that he helped deliver the franchise's first Super Bowl championship in 50 years back in February 2020. But Kelce is right in that he should receive a warm welcome in what will be a frozen Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday night. Temperatures are expected to be below zero with the wind chill factor far below that.
Will Hill be receptive to chatting it up with his old teammates on Saturday night? Perhaps, but when he steps in between the lines, it sounds like Hill will be ready to take it to them.
"Yeah, there hasn’t been any trash talk but obviously when we get there face to face, I’m going to be talking my trash. I’m really looking forward to it.”
