If there was any doubt that the San Francisco 49ers have the best roster in the NFL, it was removed on Friday with the announcement of the Associated Press All-Pro team for 2023.
The 49ers have a league-high five first-team All-Pros from a dominant regular season in which they clinched the one seed in the NFC.
Offensive Player of the Year favorite Christian McCaffrey was joined by fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tight end George Kittle and left tackle Trent Williams on the offensive side of the ball. Linebacker Fred Warner is the sole defensive first-team All-Pro, with Warner and McCaffrey selected unanimously.
Conspicuous by his absence from both the first and second team, however, is quarterback Brock Purdy, with Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys picked ahead of the Niners' signal-caller, who was MVP frontrunner for much of the season.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk missed out on a Pro Bowl berth, but he receives deserves recognition for a season in which he had 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns with a second-team All-Pro nod.
Charvarius Ward also features on the second team at cornerback, and he can feel somewhat aggrieved not to be on the first team having racked up a league-high 23 pass breakups along with five interceptions in a stellar second season.
NFC foe gives 49ers a big headache for 2024
It’s a huge blow.
