Buffalo Bills interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady isn't a lock to coach Josh Allen's offense even if he has the quarterback's public vote and endorsement.

Perhaps that's a good thing as it means the Bills are truly looking into every option available to them and prioritizing what's best for the franchise from an objective point of view which includes talking to other people. That's the least they could do after such a painful loss in the playoffs.

Interestingly enough, one of the latest names to be tossed into the conversation is a face very familiar to the Bills Mafia: Former quarterback Thad Lewis.

That's right, the same guy the Bills traded for back in 2013 when the team dealt with injuries to rookie E.J. Manuel and Kevin Kolb dealing with concussion symptoms. That year, Lewis would start five games for the Bills on his way to 1,092 passing yards and a 2-3 record as a starter that included a game winning drive against the Miami Dolphins.

Now, Lewis could be joining the Bills after a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler indicated he's interviewing for the position. Of course, Buffalo will be interviewing other candidates but Lewis is considered a legit OC candidate around the league.

Why Thad Lewis as an offensive coordinator candidate?

His experience as a coach in the NFL started in 2021 when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as assistant wide receivers coach, a role he also executed in 2022. Most recently, he coached Baker Mayfield and the Bucs' quarterbacks in 2023.

Mayfield delivering one of the best seasons he's had as a pro definitely helps Lewis' case. He also could be very open to leaving Tampa Bay following the departure of his offensive coordinator Dave Canales, who is joining the Carolina Panthers as head coach.

It's clear the Bucs overachieved by winning the NFC South after Tom Brady's retirement and the Bills might be interested in tapping into that.

Since Lewis' had two wins versus the Dolphins in that 2013 season, fans have jokingly dubbed him "The Dolphin Killer." Considering Miami is their biggest rival in the AFC East at the moment, you know fans will smile if he gets the job.

In all seriousness though, Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott have a difficult decision at offensive coordinator this offseason. We'll see if they're interested in the franchise's former friend.
