A lot of Las Vegas Raiders fans were not really open to the idea of Tom Telesco becoming the new general manager of their favorite team. And it's understandable when you think about how the last two regimes went in terms of roster building. Then you factor in the state he left the Los Angeles Chargers in, and it's definitely not something to be excited about.
However, I do believe he will do some great things in Las Vegas. Look at the rosters he built and the players he drafted with the Chargers – it's a great resume in that aspect. However, he still has some winning over to do for the Raiders fan base.
During the introductory press conference, he said something that I think will really resonate with fans. In fact, I think it could make the fan base start to warm up to the idea of Telesco building the Raiders an elite roster.
"This is such an iconic franchise with a storied history, and obviously, it all starts with the legacy of Al Davis," Telesco said in his opening statement. "I couldn't be more excited to be here, but I also realize there's a tremendous responsibility with this job… I haven't been here long, but when you talk about the Raider way or the Raider tenets of commitment to excellence, just win, baby, once a Raider, always a Raider, I've heard of it, I know of it, I've seen it, but when you walk in this building, you can feel it. I haven't been here long, but there is no doubt — first of all, you see it tangibly."
Knowing that the Raider Way has been established within the building, and new people can feel it as soon as they walk in, says something about the change they have already done within the franchise. And Tom Telesco mentioned that they will win over fans.
This fan base holds what it means to be a Raider close to their heart. Now, Telesco is, and hopefully, fans are warming up to him.
