The Athletic's Nick Kosmider thinks former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton will land with an AFC West franchise in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Kosmider put together a mock draft for the Denver Broncos on Thursday. He has the Broncos selecting Milton in the sixth round of the mock draft.
From The Athletic: Quarterback evaluations will twist and turn over the next two-plus months, making it nearly impossible to predict where members of this year’s class will fall in the draft. But Milton could be an interesting prospect as a Day 3 pick because of his clear physical talent. He put more distance and speed behind the ball than any quarterback at the Senior Bowl during the first day of practices Tuesday, but his mechanics will need work to make him a more accurate passer. It will be interesting to see whether a team that selects Milton could create a limited package for him in the red zone. Milton had seven rushing touchdowns for the Volunteers last season, six of which were between 1 and 6 yards. Payton, of course, has used an unconventional approach to red zone running before with Taysom Hill.
Kosmider's note about a potential package for Milton is something that several NFL teams could consider. And it could make the former Vol more attractive in the NFL draft.
Milton won't be drafted as a day one starter. But if a team can land him in the later rounds of the draft and figure out a way to use him in goal line situations, he could provide increased value as a backup quarterback.
Additionally, Milton could also serve as a "hail mary" specialist for a team. But for that to work, he'd have to be active on game days, instead of serving as the emergency quarterback. The only way that makes sense is if a team has several packages for the former Vol.
