While the Steelers and T.J. Watt came short of their ultimate goal, it was still a season to remember for the future Hall of Famer.

Dominating the stat sheet when comparing him to his counterparts, Watt should be the runaway for Defensive Player of the Year, yet Watt continues to be discounted by many

That changed on Tuesday when the Chiefs and writers at the "Committee of 101" gave Watt the upper hand in a growing debate:

AFC Defensive Player of the Year: T.J. Watt

Watt was selected by the 'Committee of 101' as the 2023 NFL 101 Awards AFC Defensive Player of the Year, the third time in his career he won the honor. He previously won the honor in 2020 and 2021. Watt is also a leading candidate for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, which will be presented on Feb. 8 during the NFL Honors.

The award is chosen by a national selection committee that includes 101 national media that cover the NFL. This award will be presented at the 54th Annual 101 Awards Gala in March. -Teresa Varley, Steelers PR

The award may have been voted on by writers from publications across the county, but the award is put on by the Chiefs, proving that those of who have championship pedigree know who is most deserving of the title as best defender in the conference.

That's no slight at Myles Garrett or Peter King's recent comments, but it's refreshing to see that a group of writers and an opposing team actually appreciate the obvious dominance of Watt, with so many trying to detract or downright ignore his success.
