Well, that was awfully fast.

The Miami Dolphins and former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio mutually parted ways on Wednesday afternoon.  Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Fangio has already reached a deal to join the Philadelphia Eagles in the same capacity.

The decision to mutually part ways was one that seems to have multiple working parts.  Per Schefter, both sides agreed to the split in part to allow Fangio to be closer to his family in Philadelphia.

However, Fangio apparently had some issues with some of his defenders, which became evident after some strong posts went up on social media by some Dolphins defenders as soon as it was announced that Fangio was headed out of town. Also, per Fan Nation's Omar Kelly, Fangio's handling of a number of matters – particularly refusing to shadow top wideouts, refusing to use rookie CB Cam Smith, and the infrequent use of DL Emmanuel Obgah – were sources of complaints from players.

Regardless of why, it was clear that the fit was no longer a good one for Fangio in south Florida.  Now, he'll get to join the team that appears to be a better fit for him, at least geographically.  And there is some history there.  Fangio was hired by the Eagles as a consultant last year shortly before Philadelphia faced the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

Of course, it does beg the question: how did this happen so quickly?  How could Fangio and the Eagles already reportedly have a deal expected at the same time his former team is announcing his departure?  Perhaps the Dolphins participated in helping him transition up north before formally letting him go.  Otherwise, the timing is certainly curious.

Regardless, Fangio now appears to be headed to a place he prefers to be, and certain Dolphins players are more than happy with that.
