The Philadelphia Eagles lost 32-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ending their late-season collapse in the worst possible way.
Jalen Hurts completed 25 of his 35 pass attempts for 250 yards and one touchdown. 1,000-yard running back D'Andre Swift ran for a lousy 34 yards on 10 carries and wide receiver DeVonta Smith had eight catches and 148 receiving yards with zero touchdowns.
How does this happen to once a 10-1 team?
After the game, Hurts was asked about the elephant in the room, aka head coach Nick Sirianni's future with the team.
“I didn’t know he was going anywhere," Hurts said, looking slightly surprised post-game. "… I have a ton of confidence in everyone in this building. It’s just a matter of us going out there and playing clean football. That is something that we have not done."
Hurts appears to be on Sirianni's side with that comment, despite the rumors saying the two did not see eye to eye on the offense this season.
That, or Hurts' media training has played off.
What we do know is that Hurts isn't ignorant to the fact that "clean football" has not been in the Eagles' dictionary in over a month, and that gives owner Jeffrey Lurie a good enough reason to move on from Sirianni and the rest of the staff.
If Lurie chooses not to make the move, then Sirianni will remain under scrutiny for at least one more year and the booing will be heard for miles in Philadelphia.
