The Philadelphia Eagles' embarrassing freefall to end the season has rumors swirling that head coach Nick Sirianni's job is in jeopardy.
During locker cleanout on Wednesday, Eagles' star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was asked his thoughts on the Sirianni speculation.
And he didn't like it.
“Have you gotten any wind of what’s going to happen with Nick?” the reporter asked him. “Do you have confidence that if you do come back, confidence in him if he’s also the head coach?”
"Like any news about … what about Nick?” Cox responded, looking confused.
“There’s obviously been some speculation about whether he may be fired or not,” the reporter said.
Cox quickly said, “Huh?”
“Yeah," the reporter replied.
“C’mon man. Man, he’s the head football coach of this team," Cox said. "C’mon man, we ain’t even — that ain’t even no f***** discussion.
“Okay, okay, you don’t think it’s going to happen,” the reporter responded.
“I don’t got nothing to say about that. You’re a clown, bro,” Cox said. “Get out of my face, bro.”
Cox was asked about the situation again by another reporter.
This time, there was no name-calling as he stood up for Sirianni.
"What is there to talk about? He’s a winner,” Cox said, via WPVI's Mark Meany. “He’s a winning head coach. Did we have some bumps this year? Every team, every organization, everybody goes through it. We don’t look at firing a man that has won 10-plus games two years in a row. He took this organization to three playoff appearances three years in a row. He’s a good leader for this team. He does a really good job.”
There's a chance that is the last time Eagles reporters and fans ever hear from the six-time Pro Bowl veteran.
Cox, who is set to become a free agent in March, didn't just clean out his locker, he cleared it out, leaving many to believe that his playing days in Philly are over.
If that's the case, then Cox, the franchise's all-time sack leader, went out with a bang standing up for Sirianni.
