The Seattle Seahawks have their new head coach. It's now former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
Macdonald was one of the most popular candidates for the league's HC openings, and at 36, he's the young head coach in the NFL now. He's one of the top defensive minds in the league.
Ravens star Kyle Hamilton agrees with that sentiment. He endorsed Macdonald in a major way right before the news broke about his agreement with Seattle.
Calling him the smartest guy in the building is some legitimate praise. Both the Ravens and Seahawks have experienced coaching staff members and players in their respective organizations.
The Ravens were No. 1 in points allowed, sacks and takeaways in 2023. They achieved those numbers in just his second season as Baltimore's coordinator. It was clear that he impacted every aspect of their unit.
With the move, the Seahawks cut their head coach's age in half. Pete Carroll was 72. Macdonald's youth did not make him underrated by teams, either. He had interviews with six teams and consistently received positive feedback.
There's no secret that Macdonald earned the respect of his players in Baltimore. Expect that to occur quickly and efficiently with the Seahawks as well.
