Immediately after the Tennessee Vols' loss to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday evening in Columbia, UT head coach Josh Heupel indicated that he didn't like the way his team finished the game.

Heupel, specifically, suggested that he didn't like the way his team competed near the end of the 36-7 loss.

"Man, really disappointed in the performance of our football team," said Heupel during his post-game press conference. "Didn't like the way we finished the ball game."

"End of the game I didn't like because I didn't feel like we competed the way that we needed to finish it out," added Heupel.

On Monday, Heupel met with reporters for his weekly press conference. And after watching the film of the game, Heupel clarified that he thought "a lot" of players played hard, he just didn't think they played smart to finish the game.

"The last couple of drives, you know, going back and watching it, a lot of them did continue to play hard," explained Heupel on Monday. "I just didn’t think we played very smart at the end of it. So I’m disappointed in that.”

There's no doubt it was a frustrating end to the game for the Vols. And in those final moments, when the game was clearly out of reach, it was probably tough to stick to the plan and play with high energy. But while the end of the game looked sloppy for Tennessee, the good news for the Vols is that it wasn't because of a lack of effort. It seems it was almost entirely due to the frustration of a tough afternoon, which is certainly understandable.
