ESPN calls its shot on former Tennessee Vols WR Jalin Hyatt and it’s a mixed bag of news
Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is entering his fourth season in the NFL.
After falling out of favor with the New York Giants over the last two seasons, former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is battling for a roster spot this summer.
And ESPN doesn’t think it’s going to work out for him.
Hyatt, who is entering the final season of his rookie contract, has barely been used by New York over the last two seasons (13 receptions since the start of the 2024 season), and he may not be the best fit in new head coach John Harbaugh’s offense (which relies heavily on multi-tight end sets and a run-heavy scheme).
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan made his 53-man roster prediction for the Giants this week and he doesn’t have Hyatt making the team.
“The reality is the Giants currently have Nabers, Darnell Mooney, Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin III and rookie Malachi Fields seemingly as locks on the roster,” wrote Raanan. “That leaves one or two spots (depending on Nabers’ health) for Beckham, Berrios, Smith-Schuster, Isaiah Hodgins, Jalin Hyatt, Dalen Cambre, Beaux Collins and Ryan Miller.”
Raanan has Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin III, Malachi Fields, and Odell Beckham Jr making the Giants’ 53-man roster over Hyatt.
I’m sure Hyatt will be bummed if this is how his time in New York ends, but a fresh start with a team that will actually give him a chance to play is probably the best thing that could happen to his career.
Jalin Hyatt isn’t the only former Tennessee WR ESPN predicts will get cut before the season
ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi made his 53-man roster prediction for the Cleveland Browns this week, and he has former Vols wide receiver Cedric Tillman getting left off.
He has Jerry Jeudy, KC Concepcion, Denzel Boston, Isaiah Bond, Tylan Wallace, and Malachi Corley making the cut over Tillman.
Tillman, like Hyatt, is entering the final season of his rookie contract.
