The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted edge defender Nick Herbig to be the perfect complement to T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmuth.

And to this point, all he has done is prove them right.

Yet for some reason, he can't seem to even get on the field:

Two Snaps? Seriously?

I understand that Sunday's contest was a close game, and there are still obvious concerns about Herbig's ability to hold up against the run. But his lack of playing time only hurts the guys in front of him as Watt and Highsmith can't be expected to go 100% every rep if they get zero breaks throughout the game.

And on top of it, Herbig has shown the ability to win reps that matter in the regular season:

So nobody except those in the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex knows why Herbig hasn't received a lot of snaps since the Jagfurs game. He was on the injury report a few weeks back, but he was never anything more than limited and has been fully available in every game this year.

So maybe Pittsburgh is protecting him, or working him in slow. It could have been just plain oversight, who knows. Coaching is hard enough, much less when you're in the midst of a live game.

But the bottom line is, Herbig needs more reps.
