Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich may as well be on fire.
After the Panthers pulled the game within one score late in the third quarter, the Cowboys used the defense and efficient play-calling to trounce Carolina 33-10 Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers drop to 1-9 on the season, and Reich, who came into this game feeling pressure from ownership to show improvement, is now on the hottest seat in the NFL.
Ahead of the Week 11 matchup, Reich reclaimed play-calling duties in action that can best be summarized as a captain willing to go down with the ship.
And man, the Panthers sunk.
The offense scored one touchdown, and it came on a 17-play, 70-yard drive that required three fourth-down conversions. It wasn't sustainable. Dallas had to know that because they looked unfazed by Carolina pulling the game to one score (17-10) at the time.
With Reich calling the plays, not much changed. The offense still looked putrid. Rookie quarterback Bryce Young still looked bad. He threw for 123 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The interception Young threw was a pick-6 that broke the back of a Panthers team that relied on its defense to keep it in the game for long stretches at a time.
In an ugly outing, Reich calling the plays made no difference. And the Panthers' 1-9 record through 11 weeks is one of the worst stretches in franchise history. Actions have consequences. Reich may be facing his soon.
Heading into Sunday, it was reported that “without a doubt here, Frank Reich has the hottest seat in the league" by NFL insider Jay Glazer on Fox NFL Sunday.
That hasn't changed. In fact, after scoring only 10 points, that seat might as well be in a lake of fire.
Bryce Young & Panthers’ offense prove they are trying to save Frank Reich’s job
Late in the third quarter against the Dallas Cowboys, Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers’ offense attempted to save Frank Reich’s job.
