The Minnesota Vikings fell to the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football, ending a five-game winning streak.
Even in a loss, quarterback Joshua Dobbs performed admirably once again. The QB has been a Viking for less than a month and has already gained the trust of his teammates.
However, with the Vikings getting healthier, the team will have to make a decision soon.
Veteran QB Nick Mullens was recently activated from injured reserve. Rookie Jaren Hall should also soon be healthy after recovering from a concussion.
With the Vikings finally losing again, Kevin O'Connell could be tempted to go back to the rookie or insert the veteran. However, I believe it would be foolish to give up on Dobbs.
For starters, the team has rallied around Dobbs. The journeyman has great chemistry with TJ Hockenson, and things should get easier with star receiver Justin Jefferson coming back imminently.
Dobbs also leads the team in rushing touchdowns. That's not exactly a high bar, but it's impressive nonetheless. Hall can run, but he may be hesitant to do so coming off of a concusssion. Mullens is not mobile.
I believe Dobbs is the best option if the Vikings want to win this season. Sitting at 6-5, the team is very much in the playoff race, and rookie mistakes could change that.
Until Dobbs gives you a reason to bench him, he needs to be the starter.
