The Buffalo Bills, as I previously reported, are rumored to be interested in acquiring CB Jaylon Johnson from the Bears. The young CB would immediately make an impact on a team that's been devastated by injury.

Perhaps the biggest advantage Buffalo has, whether it's trading for Johnson or another player, is that of former first-round pick Kaiir Elam. Buffalo has the ultimate bargaining chip and trade bait in Elam, who has been a healthy scratch from the majority of the games this season

What team doesn't love a young, hungry corner with limited playing time and a low-risk, high-reward type player? While the Bills Mafia and front office have appeared to sour on Elam, he's a worthy bargaining chip for a team that could be looking to be buyers at the NFL trade deadline.

This could be the lowest that the team has ever been on the talented young cornerback. Ahead of the Thursday Night victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo made the head-scratching decision to activate Josh Norman over Elam, another indication of how the front office may be feeling about Elam's abilities.

Sean McDermott even opened up after the game, discussing that the team just wants to put the players on the field who give them the best chance to win. A big ol' oof when thinking about Elam and the team's faith in him moving forward.

Now, Elam hasn't played well this season, in a limited time, but that doesn't mean that he is incapable of playing good football. In fact, just last season, the Bills Mafia had crowned Elam as an unexpected MVP after the team's win over the Miami Dolphins in the playoffs. Admittedly, Elam shined during the end of last season and in the postseason, which makes his inability to see the field even more bizarre.

If the Buffalo Billsy truly wants to move away from Elam, this could be the perfect opportunity to ship him off for a piece that could help the team now. From injuries to the interior of the defensive line to cornerback issues, there are plenty of areas the team can target at the NFL trade deadline after injuries decimated the entire unit.

Elam, throughout his short NFL career, has played in 16 games with 55 tackles with two interceptions. Plenty of fuel left in the tank for teams in need of a CB who wants to take a shot on the young player.

Only time will tell if Brandon Beane wants to move away from the project CB for a more proven commodity to immediately help this defense in a position of need.
