The Las Vegas Raiders fans will now see a new but familiar face in the front office now more often than they usually do. What do I mean by that? Well, the new interim general manager is a guy who was already on the staff; he just has a bigger role.
On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders let the package deal of Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels go, which meant they would be without a head coach and general manager. They filed the head coach position with Antonio Pierce, who was the linebackers coach.
Now, they have announced that assistant general manager Champ Kelly will be the interim general manager.
Kelly applied for the general manager job the same year that Dave Ziegler got the job, and now he has the job, for now, anyway.
Here is the exert the Raiders posted about Kelly:
The Las Vegas Raiders have named Champ Kelly as the Interim General Manager. Kelly is in his second season as Assistant General Manager with the Raiders. Prior to joining the Raiders, Kelly spent seven seasons in personnel and scouting with the Chicago Bears and eight seasons with the Denver Broncos.
Now, to see how Kelly does for the next nine weeks or so.
