Let's go back to 2022.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the playoffs and they're set up to face their long-time rival, the San Francisco 49ers.

Fans were skeptical, but optimistic going into the game.

That took a big shift when one play happened.

It was the second quarter, the Cowboys were in the red zone and they were driving. Then, something happened that you never want to see.

One of their star players got hurt.

Tony Pollard went down with a freak injury that resulted in a fractured fibula and a sprained ankle. Just like that, Cowboys Nation felt like they were gasping for air, looking for hope regarding how they could win.

We all know the story, and how ultimately they didn't win. And to compound the situation: Since returning to the field, Pollard has simply not looked the same.

As it stands, Pollard is 16th in the NFL with 423 rushing yards. He's averaging 3.9 yards per carry, which is good for 24th in the NFL. The advanced stats don't get much better, as he has 278 yards after contact (21st in the NFL), he has only forced 8 missed tackles (tied for 46th in the NFL), and seven explosive runs (runs of 10+ yards), which is tied for 34th in the NFL.

But despite the slow start, Pollard is manifesting things in the right way.

The Cowboys could really use a big game from Pollard this week against the Eagles. Dallas has a chance to claim the top spot in the NFC East with a win and Pollard would undoubtedly be a huge part of the victory if it were to happen.

Week 10 is a prime spot for Pollard and the Cowboys, as well. Dallas faces the New York Giants, who just traded one of their better defensive linemen, and have one of the bottom-tier run defense units in the league, per PFF. (59.6 run defense grade, 22nd in the NFL).

The good news for Cowboys fans is that a win in either game helps the bid for an NFC East crown. And Pollard plans on contributing in a big way.
