The Cleveland Browns got just what they needed in Week 9 of the NFL season.
In the Browns 27-0 blowout win over the Cardinals, the Cleveland defense came to play. Arizona was held scoreless and to just 58 total yards. Just 17 of those yards came through the air.
After a couple of tough weeks against the Colts and Seahawks, the defense returned to form and was dominant against the Cardinals.
Cleveland forced three turnovers on the day, as well as another on downs. CB Denzel Ward and LB Sione Takitaki were able to pick off rookie QB Clayton Tune and Shelby Harris had a strip sack. Overall, the Browns had seven sacks of Tune.
DT Dalvin Tomlinson had himself three sacks, while DE Myles Garrett, DE Za’Darius Smith and DT Jordan Elliott joined Harris with one.
Both S Grant Delpit and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah continued the solid seasons they are having. Delpit led the way with eight tackles for the defense.
It was a big bounce back for Jim Schwartz’s unit that needed it. The energy provided by the defense was felt within the offense at times.
Next week gets a lot tougher against the Baltimore Ravens, but the Browns are heading into it on a high note.
