Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tipped his hat to Baltimore Ravens fans during a recent appearance on ESPN’s "Manningcast."
Mahomes said on Monday that there have only been two instances in his career in which crowd noise forced him to change how he communicates with his offensive line.
"I’m mostly verbal," Mahomes said. "The only time I’ve been silent is in Baltimore and in Seattle. … It was so loud in those stadiums that [the] tackles couldn’t hear me."
Mahomes has squared off with the Ravens twice at M&T Bank Stadium. However, the Chiefs’ road matchup against the Ravens in the 2021 season is the only time that he has played in front of a packed crowd at M&T Bank Stadium, and he went on to log three touchdown passes in the contest.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Roquan Smith was asked about Mahomes’ such comments, and he also credited Ravens fans for making M&T Bank Stadium a difficult one for opposing quarterbacks to play in.
"Oh, yes, it’s definitely going to be a hostile environment; credit that to the fans, honestly," Smith said. "And yes, even for me, personally, echoing the call out to the defense sometimes, guys will be like, ‘What? What?’ multiple times, with the noise being so loud.
"But it’s just a credit to the home crowd, and it’s a hostile environment to play in, and that’s the way we love it, so [I] enjoy playing here."
The Ravens hold a 147-66 record at M&T Bank Stadium, including the playoffs.
