Joe Namath, Jets' fans, and media have lost all faith in Zach Wilson

The sharks come when there is blood in the water. And for the New York Jets and Zach Wilson, the sea is turning red.

A lot has been made over the extremely poor play of Jets quarterback Zach Wilson over the last few weeks. The first game against the Buffalo Bills could be chalked up to being thrust into a game he had no business being a part of.

The second game against the Dallas Cowboys could be attributed to poor offensive line play against a stout defense. But that is already two excuses in two games. And there was no excuse for the embarrassing play in week three against the New England Patriots.

Zach Wilson looks simply lost. While in the past others were quick to come to his aid and preach patience and point out his arm talents, it seems now Wilson has few believers outside of the building.

I have made my feelings known about Zach Wilson, as have many who cover the team. But now the scope of his failure is reaching new heights.

Jets legend Joe Namath has seen enough of Zach Wilson. Appearing on “The Michael Kay Show” he expressed his desire to see the team go in a different direction. "I've seen enough of Zach Wilson." Namath said Wilson's performance was "disgusting," adding there were no positives and they should trade him.

Namath is very involved in the Jets organization and is usually positive about the players on the team. But this sounds like a man who has lost all faith in Wilson and likely the organization as long as they keep starting him.

ESPN NFL Analyst put Zach Wilson’s inefficiently and lack of confidence on display in a video breakdown. Warning for you Jets fans that haven’t seen this, it’s hard to watch.

Wilson has thrown seven interceptions against the Patriots in only five starts against them. He was simply afraid to pull the trigger and take a chance in the game. In other words, like so many Jets QB’s before him, he is broken.

What more evidence do you need then to watch him throw the ball one yard in the flat on fourth and ten to Tyler Conklin with the game on the line? He was too afraid to try and push the ball down the field when failure to convert was not an option.

Longtime unofficial mascot of the New York Jets Fireman Ed took to social media to share his thoughts on Zach Wilson. “He needs to be released or traded. That’s just the way it is,” Ed Anzalone said.

You can dismiss Fireman Ed all you want, but the fact is that he is one of the faces of the franchise. He speaks for a majority of the fans and he isn’t one to quickly call for someone to lose their job or get cut.

I can’t see how this can possibly continue. The Jets have a team built to win and there are mediocre, if not decent quarterbacks who have expressed interest in throwing the ball to Garrett Wilson and handing the ball to Breece Hall.

Benching Zach Wilson this year in favor of someone who will literally pick up the playbook for the first time in late September or October would likely mean the end of his career and Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh would have to admit their giant mistake.

It’s a different NFL than it was ten or even five years ago. Look at what happened with San Francisco 49ers. They missed terribly on QB Trey Lance and they spent three first-round picks on him. But because they found Brock Purdy, there is nobody calling for their jobs.

The Jets missed badly on Zach Wilson. But Aaron Rodgers will be back. There is no reason to keep torturing your team or your fan base but trotting him out their every week.
