Key Giants players get ripped apart by Cowboys star George Pickens in a respectful way that will leave a bad taste in their mouths
The NFL is back and one of the top rivalries just received a shot of adrenaline thanks to Cowboys WR George Pickens’ comments about the Giants’ cornerback room.
John Harbaugh and the New York Giants know they’ll have their hands full with the fearsome Dallas Cowboys wide receiver duo that is George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, and the former rubbed it in their face quite a bit when he spoke with reporters on Wednesday.
“That’s definitely how he should feel,” Pickens said when asked about Giants corner Greg Newsome’s opinion that New York has the best cornerback room in the NFL. “Now, how we should feel, I’d definitely say a completely different story. That’s cool that he thinks that.
“He should definitely feel like that, but I feel like we’re definitely not thinking the same thing.”
It was a respectful, yet brutal diss aimed at not just Newsome, but former first-rounder Deonte Banks, Dru Phillips, Paulson Adebo, rookie second-rounder Colton Hood, and Nic Jones. And it will certainly give them bulletin board material/even more motivation to go out and prove Pickens wrong when the two teams face off on Sunday Night Football.
George Pickens’ take on the Giants cornerback room is pretty on-point
In all honesty, Pickens has a pretty solid point. No one is sitting here saying the Giants have an awful cornerback room, but to call it “the best” is quite the stretch.
Hell, it’s not even the best in the NFC East, as the Philadelphia Eagles and Cowboys, themselves, have a better group on paper. Then, it’s teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots are a few others that can certainly make a case over the what the Giants have.
Could this all change by the time Week 18, or even sooner, rolls around? Sure. But it’s way too premature to plant this flag and while you have to respect Newsome’s confidence, there’s definitely a line between confidence and over-projecting.
Regardless, there can only be one winner on Sunday and we’ll certainly find out whether or not he’s right. The results will speak for themselves.
