The 49ers, for all the winning football they have played under Kyle Shanahan, have not claimed Super Bowl glory since the 1994 season.

San Francisco has come agonizingly close to lifting the Lombardi Trophy several times in the Shanahan era. The Niners lost Super Bowl LIV after a late comeback by the Chiefs at the end of a stellar 2019 campaign, and came up short in the NFC Championship Game in each of the last two seasons.

But, after an excellent 3-0 start to 2023, the oddsmakers foresee the 49ers finally getting over the hump and winning their sixth Super Bowl title this season.

The 49ers (+550) have the best odds to win Super Bowl 59, per betonline.ag, just ahead of the defending champion Chiefs (+600).

Philadelphia, which benefited from Brock Purdy's elbow injury in last season's NFC title game, is third favorite at +650.

San Francisco's status as the favorite is reflective of a roster with few obvious holes that has brushed aside its first three opponents with relatively little difficulty.

But bigger tests lie in wait for the 49ers. After they host a Cardinals team that is friskier than most anticipated in Week 4, the Niners face the Cowboys and then have games with the Browns and their formidable defense and the Bengals sandwiched by a primetime road game against the Vikings.

After a bye in Week 9, the 49ers face five 2022 playoff teams in as many weeks, taking on the Jaguars and Buccaneers before facing the Seahawks twice either side of a rematch with the Eagles.

The 49ers' standing as the Super Bowl favorites at this point is well deserved, but it is those challenges to come that give a better picture of whether this loaded roster really is ready to go all the way and end a wait of nearly three decades for title number six.
