Last night was a beat-down from the start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That game felt like it was out of reach from early on, but there were a few plays where it seemed like the Bucs could get some control back. A Mike Evans dropped pass in the endzone didn't help. Neither did a strange moment from Devin White.
White made a big play towards the end of a messy first half with an interception, which was good, but the end of the play left many wondering what the Hell was going on.
The announcers were quick to bring up Devin White's groin injury as he pulled up and ran out of bounds on his interception, but in truth, that isn't a great answer for a team that needed a huge play there.
White is the type of player that could house a ball like that, get the Bucs back to almost-level, and completely change the momentum of the game. Heck, White isn't the only backer on the team with that talent.
The lanes were there. White made a business decision, and perhaps a good one too based on the severity of his injury, but one has to wonder why he was on the field in the first place if the Bucs couldn't count on him to make the plays.
Yes, the pick helped, but a lot of guys could've capitalized on that moment and stolen the ball in the air, and a slightly-longer run back could've changed the drive for the Bucs.
The defense may have been hurting and onto some depth guys, but asking Devin White to play above his injury in a situation like that led to a head-scratching moment for the Buccaneers, and that can't happen again.
Either a guy is good to go or he isn't. There can't be any more shying away due to decisions like this from the coaching staff.
Buccaneers struggle in tough Week 3 loss
It sure wasn’t pretty.
