It's obvious that Ryan Tannehill isn't the long-term answer for the Tennessee Titans or the team would have never selected quarterbacks in back-to-back drafts.
But Tannehill could be the answer somewhere else.
The New York Jets, who are in the midst of a quarterback crisis, need to figure out something fast with reports saying that the locker room is not buying into Robert Saleh's optimism for Zach Wilson taking over for Aaron Rodgers.
Recent NFL rumors are saying the Jets have Minnesota Vikings' Kirk Cousins on their radar, but that could be too costly for a team that had already dumped a lot of money into Rodgers' pockets.
Because of that, one NFL executive floated an idea to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler involving a Jets trade for Tennesee Titans' quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
"He'd cost less draft capital than Kirk Cousins," Fowler wrote. "He has a connection with Jets passing game coordinator Todd Downing, a former Titans playcaller. His $27 million salary is modest for a reputable NFL starter. And the Jets just need someone who can get the ball to Garrett Wilson on third down. Tannehill can get that done."
ESPN's Dan Graziano responded in agreement noting that Tannehill would be the easier and more logical route that the Jets should take for two reasons: Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract and may actually not be ready to leave Minnesota just yet.
However, there has got to be some concern over considering a potential trade for Tannehill, who hasn't looked much better than Wilson, completing just 59.0 percent of his throws for 548 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Although his lack of production could help drive down the cost for New York.
As for Tennessee, with the way the season has been going, it couldn't hurt them to go ahead and get a better look at 2022 third-round pick quarterback Malik Willis or rookie Will Levis.
The official NFL trade deadline is Oct. 31.
