The Buffalo Bills are licking their wounds and traveling back to Orchard Park to prepare for their upcoming contest against the Las Vegas Raiders.
During the Bills' loss to the Jets, one positive from the offense was the team getting WR Stefon Diggs the ball early and often. He was a focal part of their offense and shined under the bright lights.
The last time we saw Diggs and Allen play meaningful football was during the playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. In the game, Diggs erupted on the sideline at his franchise quarterback and was a large talking point throughout the offseason.
Was Diggs happy? Did he want a trade? With his cryptic messaging and a "very concerned" from Sean McDermott, fans were left in the dark. It wasn't until Diggs opened up to the media at training camp that we got an inside look at his mind and where he was at. At the end of the day, Diggs is the ultimate competitor who will do everything he can to win a football game.
Fast forward to last night, Diggs made headlines once again for what he was doing on the sideline. This time, it looked vastly different from his outburst toward Josh Allen in the playoffs. Diggs, showing true leadership, reached out in support of Allen, trying to get him back on track and letting him know everything was going to be alright.
There are critics who think Diggs is a diva, that he and Buffalo aren't going to work out, and that he hates it here. If this is what hate looks like, we are in for a fun next couple of years.
Yes, the loss stings, and we shouldn't have lost the game. Some members of the Bills Mafia were calling for Sean McDermott to be fired after the game, others think that Allen may not be the answer. My point is that we can see how emotions can take over even when we aren't in the game. Now imagine being on the field and it provides a little bit of a clearer understanding of why Diggs may have been frustrated in the playoff loss.
All that being said, Diggs is a team captain who will do whatever it takes to win, including trying to get his quarterback back on track. Last night was ugly, but just imagine how much more ugly it would've been if we didn't have Diggs on the roster.
I am happy he is here, I love the leadership, but sometimes the cryptic messaging catches me off guard. Much like with Josh Allen and his turnover-prone play, I will take it seven out of seven days, and twice on Sundays.
Don't hit the panic button quite yet, this is where things are going to start getting fun (hopefully).
