What worked for the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 was tight end Hayden Hurst.
The offseason addition seemed to find chemistry with rookie quarterback Bryce Young to the tune of five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Hurst looks like he will be the security blanket for Young. And heading into a Week 2 matchup with the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers will need security blanket Hurst paired with explosive vertical plays to open up the offense moving forward.
Frank Reich said the tight ends would play a massive role in his offense. That was on display all game on Sunday.
Against New Orleans, it should be more of the same. The Saints, with Derek Carr, look like a team that wants to control the pace of the game and the number of possessions. The Panthers utilizing Hurst in the passing game is a way for them to beat the Saints at their own game.
Plus, it would give the Panthers more moments like this:
Hust explained the moment in a tweet: “Yes, I blacked out and threw Bryce’s first touchdown in the seats. But they threw it back, and the ball is in safe hands. Everyone one can relax and dial it back about 30 percent.”
A more, or equally involved Hurst, matched with explosive plays, seems to be a perfect recipe for the Panthers' success in Week 2.
