The Cincinnati Bengals get another crack at it this Sunday in their home opener against the Baltimore Ravens, the last team they've played at home in a non-preseason game.
While Baltimore is a familiar opponent entering the Queen City, the broadcasting team calling the AFC North matchup is pretty new. CBS Sports' crew of Andrew Catalon, Tiki Barber, Matt Ryan, and AJ Ross will be calling their first-ever Bengals game.
And as Pro Football Network's Jay Morrison points out, former Bengals running back Giovani Bernard will call the game on Sports USA National Radio.
Bernard, a former second-round pick of the Bengals from the 2013 NFL Draft, played eight years in Cincinnati before finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He officially retired this past April.
The last time Bernard was in Paycor Stadium, he played his final game with the Bengals in January of 2021… against the Ravens.
The Bengals' home opener will feature the same head referee as their 2022 opener in Shawn Hochuli, the son of former NFL ref Ed Hochuli. The Bengals have won one of three games reffed by the younger Hochuli.
The Bengals have much larger issues at hand than who's reffing the game. A loss to the Ravens would put them at 0-2 on the season, and more importantly, 0-2 in their division. Such a hole would be extremely difficult to climb out of, even with 15 games to follow.
