The Cincinnati Bengals' struggles on offense aren't going to get any easier in the coming weeks.
Star wide receiver Tee Higgins left Sunday's 27-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans early with a rib injury, and according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Higgins suffered a rib fracture and could be out "for a bit."
The injury occurred right before halftime when the Bengals found themselves in a deep 21-3 hole. Higgins came off the field and went into the locker room. He would not return for the remainder of the game.
Higgins' first four games have been extremely rough and below his standard. With just two receptions and 19 yards gained against the Titans, Higgins has just 12 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns on the year.
What makes it even worse for the 24-year old is the fact that he's playing in a contract year. The Bengals and Higgins' representation failed to reach an agreement on an extension this offseason, putting his long-term future in the balance.
If Higgins does end up missing extensive time, it could ultimately cost him in free agency. In the short term, his absence will greatly impact how the Bengals' offense operates, regardless of his lack of production.
The Bengals were already down a receiver entering this week with Charlie Jones being placed on the Reserve/Injured list. Higgins' injury creates even more questions for an offense that has very few answers.
