During the week, the Carolina Panthers feared they would be without Bryce Young for up to two weeks.
Head coach Frank Reich said Young could miss two weeks with an ankle sprain and indicated that the team is taking it day by day when it comes to the health of the No. 1 overall pick.
However, a Sunday morning report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport indicates that the team feels there is a "realistic" chance that Young could return and be ready for a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings next week.
"Bryce has done well this week,'' Reich said recently. "I'm optimistic he's on the right path. Whatever the soonest he can get back is, he will get back. And when he gets back, he'll be our guy.''
Some have argued that the Panthers could fair better without Young. The pressure has mounted on the quarterback's shoulders as the offense has lacked life and struggled to move the ball.
The main culprit has been Young's lack of throws downfield. Part of that has to do with the injuries to the wide receiver position early in the season. However, another aspect of it is the play calling.
At each stop, Young has taken accountability for the offense's struggles. But with veteran backup Andy Dalton getting the start against the Seattle Seahawks, maybe Young's ankle injury was a blessing in disguise. At least for one Sunday, he gets to sit back and not worry too much about performing. Instead, he can focus merely on learning the game at an NFL level.
