The Tennessee Vols are battling Rutgers and Greg Schiano, among other programs, for a 2025 four-star linebacker from New Jersey.

Kamar Archie, 6-foot-1/215 lbs from Trenton, NJ, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 23 linebacker in the nation and the No. 6 player in the state of New Jersey.

The talented linebacker told 247Sports recently that Tennessee is one of the programs recruiting him the hardest.

"Honestly, it's the love they've been showing," said Archie to 247Sports about the Vols. "The first thing I thought about was Tennessee because I have been talking to the coaches almost every day. Even when they told me like they had to take a week off texting me and calling me, they let me know."

Rutgers, which is in New Jersey, is also coming pretty hard after Archie. And it's in part because of the relationship he's built with Schiano and the rest of the staff over the years.

"All the way back to my freshman year," said Archie about Rutgers. "I basically know almost everyone on the coaching staff. When I'm there. I feel really comfortable. I know where everything is at. Just I've been there numerous times."

Tennessee doesn't go head to head with Schiano often for recruits, but it happens every now and then.

The Vols obviously want to win every recruiting battle they're in. And the most important battles are the ones against other SEC programs. But they certainly don't want to lose a recruiting battle to Schiano, a man who was almost the Vols' head coach at one point (but thanks to a well-executed fan revolt, the Schiano hire didn't come to fruition).

There's still a long way to go in the recruiting battle for Archie, but it'll be interesting to watch how it unfolds over the next year as UT attempts to swipe a talented player from Schiano's back yard.
