Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift had less than three touches in Week 1, but that wasn't the case on Thursday Night Football.

With starter Kenny Gainwell sidelined due to a rib injury, Swift took over the backfield and ran 28 times for 175 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' 34-28 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

It was a career-high night for the Philadelphia native, who had not logged even 17 carries since 2021 with the Detroit Lions.

"He just showed vision, explosiveness," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game. "I thought the offensive line did a phenomenal job of pushing them off the ball. So, I was really pleased he protected the ball.

"That was a lot of touches, too. Not only pleased with how he saw it and how he hit it, but also thought he protected the ball. Especially, when they are coming after it in situations at the end of the game like that."

As for quarterback Jalen Hurts, he was unphased by Swift's career night.

“It was not anything that I didn’t know," Hurts said. "He’s a great talent, a great player, and a great person and teammate. He took advantage of the opportunity that he had and he had a career day. I don’t know if he’s ever rushed for 175 [yards] but it was a hell of a job and we needed it from him.”

Swift also became the first Eagles player to have 175 rushing yards and a touchdown since LeSean McCoy in 2013.

Whether or not Swift is the Eagles' new RB1 over Gainwell remains to be seen. But he sure did make a great case for the starting job with Thursday night's performance.

"He's amazing," wide receiver DeVonta Smith said of Smith. "He's a bad m———–."
