A key Tennessee Vols defender was included on an impressive list ahead of UT's big game this weekend against the Florida Gators.
Vols sophomore pass rusher James Pearce was one of the players listed among On3's top 25 edge rushers on Friday.
Pearce is ranked as On3's No. 8 edge rusher in the nation, one spot above Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner (Turner is listed at No. 15 on ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper's latest 2024 big board).
From On3: A pure pass rush specialist, Pearce excels at hunting down quarterbacks and making backfield splash plays. And he’s already shining as a sophomore.
In limited action, Pearce ripped off two sacks in 2022. He’s already got three in 2023 and should be a force coming off the edge for the Volunteers all season.
If the Vols are going to reach their goal of winning the SEC East in 2023, they'll need dominant pass rushers.
So far, Pearce seems to be up to the challenge. Tennessee hasn't played extremely tough competition through the first two games of the season — Virginia and Austin Peay are a far cry from what the Vols will face in SEC play — but Pearce did what good edge rushers are supposed to do against less talented teams (he dominated).
Pearce will get a chance this weekend in the Swamp to truly make his mark as a Vol in massive game against Florida.
