Week 3 of college football is already here.
Kansas City Chiefs scouts will continue to head to games across the country as they scout prospects for 2024 and beyond. Even with the NFL season here, it's important to pay attention to the players who are putting their stamp on the game on Saturday. Some of them will wind up playing in Arrowhead Stadium this time next year.
I've identified over 160 college prospects to keep an eye on ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, all of whom might be potential fits with the Chiefs. Below you'll find an offensive lineman who has experience at both left guard and left tackle.
Kansas State OL Cooper Beebe
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 335
Class: Senior
Another Kansas City native who plays for the Wildcats, Beebe spent four years at Piper High School in Kansas City, Kansas. He played both offensive line and defensive line during high school and was a three-star recruit as an interior offensive lineman. He received offers from Minnesota and Kansas, but ultimately wound up committing to Kansas State in 2018.
Entering the 2023 college football season, Beebe had started a combined 35 career games for the Wildcats, with starts at both left guard and left tackle. He hadn't surrendered a sack in over two seasons with the Wildcats, including a full season at left tackle in 2021.
He's a road grader in the run game and a brick wall in pass protection. He was a First Team All-American in 2022 at numerous outlets and the coaches in the Big 12 voted him as the conference Offensive Lineman of the Year.
How does he fit in Kansas City?
It feels like the Chiefs could use a jack-of-all-trades offensive lineman as insurance for the future. Nick Allegretti is slated to become a free agent again in 2024. Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey are all slated to become free agents in 2025. Joe Thuney has a big cap hit in 2025, but the team can also save $16 million by cutting him. That's a lot of uncertainty, and Beebe could give the team options as a depth player and future starter.
Not only is he an absolute stud at left guard, but he has high-level experience at tackle. He started 13 games at left tackle in 2021 and didn’t allow a single sack in all 367 pass-blocking snaps according to PFF. Teams avoid him in the passing game when he's aligned as an interior offensive lineman because he's the strongest player on that unit. That aspect of his game is quite telling in the run game when he blows defensive linemen off the ball and away from the play.
Round estimation:
Beebe is looking like a Day 2 draft selection in 2024. His value is as an interior offensive lineman, even if has the flexibility to play tackle in a pinch.
