Cleveland Browns are now 1-1 on the season after falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 26-22.
It was physical AFC North football that you would expect. Both teams suffered injuries, some more serious than others that we will get to.
After starting the season off right against the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland took a step back in Week 2.
Let’s get to instant reactions.
Nick Chubb injury
Cleveland had the air taken out of them in the second quarter early on and it lasted until halftime. When Chubb went down with the serious knee injury, it had a bother on the entire team, as well as the fanbase.
Jerome Ford ripped off a 69-yard run that gave the team some hope at the position, at least for the short time being. Now second-string running back Pierre Strong Jr. was able to punch it in a couple of plays later.
It’s just a waiting game to see if Chubb can ever return with the Browns from this serious injury. With it being that same knee he injured in college with three ligaments being damaged, there are questions that can only be answered with time.
Deshaun Watson continues to hurt this team more than help
Cleveland has an issue at quarterback and the talk of this will continue to grow until he can get it right, if he can. Watson was an abysmal 22-of-40 with three turnovers. The Browns quarterback handed the Steelers 14 points on a pick-six and fumble-six.
Watson was sacked six times by the Steelers, not only because of some bad tackle play but because of his inability to get rid of the ball. He continues to hurt himself by holding onto the ball and trying to make something out of nothing far too often.
Now with eight games in with the Browns dating back to last year, Watson hasn’t once shown an ability to be a franchise quarterback. It doesn’t matter though, the Browns gave him a fully guaranteed contract.
The defense continues to flash what they can be
Cleveland has a defense that has a whole lot of potential and they’ve proved that through two games. The only reason the Browns were in this game was the play of Jim Schwartz’s defense.
The Browns allowed less than 300 yards once again this week, it’s a recipe for success. Cleveland sacked Kenny Pickett twice and had their way of stuffing the run game outside of a couple of lengthy runs.
If you take away the 71-yard touchdown by George Pickens, Cleveland didn’t allow the Steelers’ offense to do a whole lot.
Through two games, Schwartz deserves his flowers for what he’s done with this defense.
Browns RB Nick Chubb carted off against Steelers with potential serious injury
The unthinkable just happened to the Browns.
