The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on fire. Baker Mayfield and the offense have been very efficient, and the defense has been one of the best in the NFL through two weeks.

This team has started taking steps towards achieving the goals that Todd Bowles set forth in roster construction and identity, and a part of that comes from a form of complementary football that combines a stellar defense with a modern passing attack and a decent run game.

The run game could take a hit with Chase Edmonds on IR and Ke'Shawn Vaughn on the active roster, but the Bucs showing interest in Rams RB Cam Akers could help ease some fears.

The Bucs showing interest in Akers shouldn't come as a shock. Akers is available and has flashed some high talent, his value is next to nothing based on his current standings with the Rams, and the Bucs have a need for a guy that fits an offense that looks an awful lot like what the Rams use.

If Tampa could replace Ke'Shawn Vaughn with a better runner, receiver, and blocker for a seventh-round pick, why say no?

Akers hasn't been the most consistent or effective back during his career, but even the most cynical Akers hater knows he would be an undeniable step up over a decent chunk of what the Bucs already have on their roster.

Other teams may have a bigger need and could prove to be more aggressive for Akers when it is all said and done, but the Buccaneers showing interest at least reveals their heads continue to be in the right place.
