Vita Vea and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear headed for a split after eight seasons together. The veteran defensive tackle is seeking a trade after contract negotiations with Tampa Bay hit a wall, and several NFL insiders have reported that a new uniform could be in Vea’s future for 2026.

So where could the big man end up? Here are five logical fits based on roster needs, cap space, and what Vea is reportedly looking for.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars raised eyebrows during the 2026 NFL Draft when they all but ignored the interior defensive line, a position that was a clear need coming in. There’s already a connection between Vea and Jaguars coach Liam Cohen from their time together in Tampa Bay in 2024.

Cap space with the Jags is the biggest question mark of any team on this list at a little over $8 million per Over The Cap, and the Jags would have to make clear up some space to get a deal done. But if they can find a way to land the veteran, it would provide an anchor to the middle of their defense that could help them get over the hump in the AFC.

4. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona might not be the best fit from a winning standpoint, but the Cardinals have among the most cap space in the league at around $35 million and a roster that needs a talent infusion. Vea has said he wants to go west, according to Ted Nguyen of The Athletic, and the Cardinals potentially check a number of boxes on his list from geographic and money perspectives. Sometimes the money and the location matter as much as the roster.

3. Las Vegas Raiders

There are several connections here. Vea has reportedly mentioned the Raiders as a team he’s interested in. General manager John Spytek spent a number of years in Tampa Bay’s front office, giving Las Vegas a built-in relationship with the defensive tackle. The Raiders also have a developing roster with quarterback Fernando Mendoza set to lead the franchise. That combination makes this a landing spot worth watching.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are a team that could be a few pieces away from pushing for a Super Bowl. Los Angeles has among the most cap space in the league with over $40 million to play with, and adding a dominant run stopper in the middle would be a logical move to maximize their chances for a strong 2026 season. LA ranked 21st in Warren Sharp’s front seven rankings from June, so there’s room for an upgrade in the middle.

1. San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco sits atop this list for a number of reasons. The 49ers have the most cap space in the NFL at present at over $71 million and find themselves in an arms race with the Los Angeles Rams. The Niners’ NFC West rival made massive moves this offseason to establish themselves as the clear frontrunner in the NFC West and the NFC at large, with none bigger than the addition of future first-ballot Hall of Famer EDGE Myles Garrett.

Even though San Francisco has addressed the inside of their defensive front by trading for Osa Odighizuwa this offseason, adding one of the strongest and most disruptive interior presences in football to the middle of their defensive line would be notable counter punch from the Niners.

A reunion with former Buccaneers teammate Mike Evans, now in San Francisco, could also make the move attractive to Vea on a personal level. The combination of contender status, cap flexibility, and a West Coast location makes the 49ers the most logical fit of the entire group.
