Multiple former members of the Cleveland Browns are that much closer to receiving the highest honor in football.
Eight former players of the Browns have been nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Those included are KR/PR Josh Cribbs, RB Eric Metcalf, QB Jake Delhomme, RB Jamal Lewis, WR Andre Rison, OT Lomas Brown, LB Karlos Dansby and P Brad Maynard.
The most notable of these players that folks likely remember are Cribbs, Metcalf, Lewis, and Dansby.
Cribbs spent eight of his 10 seasons with the Browns and was named to three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro nods. Throughout his career, Cribbs housed eight kickoffs for a touchdown, three of those came in the 2009 season. The former Browns player had two punt returns for a touchdown. Cribbs played wide receiver to a lesser extent and had seven receiving touchdowns and two rushing.
Metcalf was a running back and wide receiver by trade. Six seasons were spent in Cleveland out of a 13-year career, by far the most he spent anywhere during his NFL career. Metcalf was a three-time Pro Bowl participant and was named to two All-Pro teams. His best season came with the Browns in 1993 when he had 1,150 total yards and two punt returns for a touchdown.
Lewis did damage to the Browns for six seasons while he was with the Ravens before spending three seasons in Cleveland. The former All-Pro ran for 2,066 yards in 2003 and scored 14 touchdowns as a result. Lewis joined the Browns in 2007 and had 1,304 yards and then 1,002 the next.
Dansby spent just two of his 14 seasons in Cleveland but was great in 2015 when he had 108 tackles, three forced fumbles, and interceptions each. Throughout his career, Dansby made 1,422 tackles, 43 sacks, 20 forced fumbles, and 20 interceptions.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame will announce the list of Modern Football-era nominees in November, then will be narrowed down to 25 semifinalists. The final list will be of 19 nominees, including 15 Modern-Era finalists, senior finalists Randy Gradishar, Steve McMichael, and Art Powell, and coach/contributor finalist Buddy Parker.
