The Buffalo Bills have had quite the season already.

Mike Garafolo reported that LB Christian Kirksey has informed the Bills he plans to retire. Kirksey was brought in on the practice squad in hopes of some depth at the middle linebacker position.

Kirksey signing with the team was exciting for the fan base as some thought he could push for some serious playing time. With Tyrel Dodson being unable to win the position and Terrel Bernard previously suffering from an injury, it looked like Kirksey could make some noise.

The veteran linebacker was taken in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Celevan Browns where he would play until 2019. Following that he spent a year with the Packers and two seasons with the Texans before joining the Bills this season.

Throughout his NFL career, Kirksey has amassed 779 tackles 16.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and seven interceptions. A short-lived career with the Bills but a successful career overall.

Garafolo also reported that Buffalo would be bringing back a familiar face in the wake of the sudden retirement. The Bills are expected to bring back LB A.J. Klein to fill in the spot on the practice squad.

Kirksey isn't the only player to abruptly retire on the Bills this season as just a few weeks ago OL Brandon Shell announced his retirement. We wish them both nothing but the best in their retirement.
