With an offense that has often struggled to push the ball downfield, the Carolina Panthers are in the market to make a change.
Recent reports suggest that the Panthers have called around the league for a starting-level wide receiver, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
"With DJ Chark and Adam Thielen as two of their top targets," Rapoport writes, "and the only two wide receivers with more than 100 yards thus far this season — Carolina is looking for one more wideout for Young."
Rapoport also reported that the Panthers, though wanting a starting-level receiver, the team also isn't sure it wants to sell off assets currently.
The most obvious trade asset the Panthers currently have is Brian Burns. The team hasn't worked out a long-term extension for him, and contract talks have been tabled since Week 2 of the regular season.
He could potentially be someone the Panthers send out to net a return for a good starting receiver to pair with Young.
The Panthers needing a receiver doesn't come as a shock. To draft Bryce Young, the Panthers traded away DJ Moore. Without a sure-fire No. 1 receiver, the offense has lacked an elite passing attack.
"Carolina also drafted receiver Jonathan Mingo in the second round of this past year's draft," Rapoport writes, "but he has had a slow start to his career, with eight receptions for 64 yards through three games."
Rapoport also reported the Panthers are in the trade market for a safety following losing Xavier Woods to a hamstring injury that may force him to "miss some time."
It is early to start firing up the trade generator, but after a 0-3 start, the Panthers are still eying a move that can right the ship.
Panthers called more deep throws for Dalton, Frank Reich assures no slight to Bryce Young
The evidence is in, the Carolina Panthers offense had more life with Andy Dalton under center.
