With a 1-10 record, a head coach that was recently fired, and a struggling rookie quarterback, there isn't much left for the Carolina Panthers to play for moving forward.
So Frank Reich's interim replacement, Chris Tabor, has a rather simple message for the team moving forward: Have some fun.
"We’re still playin’ football," Tabor said Wednesday. "I told them we’re out on the grass, and we’re playing a kid’s game played by grown men. So let’s have some fun while we do it.”
The Panthers' losing record isn't the only terrible statistic. The team also ranks nearly last in all offensive statistical categories. But, with a change in leadership, maybe for a few weeks, the Panthers can get back to playing the game that should — at its core — be fun.
Tabor didn't indicate that he would be making any drastic changes to Reich's offensive scheme heading into Week 12. Carolina wouldn't have enough time to do so.
Instead, the interim head coach is opting for a more universal message — play the game free of expectations, as the players on the roster did before the NFL came knocking.
It sounds idealistic, but with the Panthers exhausting nearly every other option, it is a plan so crazy it could work.
Bryce Young takes the blame for Frank Reich’s dismissal
When Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper fired Frank Reich, it was for several reasons.
