The Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) may still have the NFL's best record after their loss to the San Francisco 49ers (9-3), but there are plenty who think the title of best team belongs to the 9ers, now.

Especially after the Eagles were bitten by their own narrative of how they've been more of a "resilient, never-say-die" team instead of a team that wins games without caveats. That storyline life came back to haunt them on Sunday and in a major way.

The Eagles better wake up, fast

After the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles' collection of wins now looks even less impressive than it did before. It's made up of mostly awful to middling teams and it's anchored by the still-unfathomable New York Jets loss.

It's very fair to question just how far the Eagles can go against the top teams in the NFL. We'll find out as soon as this week when they hit the road to take on the Dallas Cowboys. If they lose that game then everything is up for grabs in the NFC.

That then leaves them with three very winnable games against the New York Giants, twice, and Arizona Cardinals. However, the Eagles have to be very cautious and can't take either opponent lightly. Both have been competitive, lately, and they aren't going to simply lay down. They'll see an opportunity to put a dent in a team trying to keep its place in the playoff standings and that'll serve as plenty of motivation to give the Eagles all they can handle.

If the Eagles trip up and end up having to play on the road, then all bets are off when it comes to how far they can go in the postseason. Their current style of play isn't set up for postseason success without luck. Football is hard enough to do on your own and it only gets worse when you have more factors working against you.

The good news is they have plenty of experience when it comes to winning at a high level while taking everyone's best shot. But, that's clearly not enough to win the games that matter most. Therefore, the Eagles need to turn things around ASAP before 2023 ultimately becomes a disappointment.
