CBS Sports feels like the Tennessee Vols are "overrated" after the latest College Football Playoff rankings reveal.

Tennessee came in at No. 21 in the new playoff rankings this week, despite coming off back-to-back blowout losses to Missouri and Georgia.

The Vols, who are 7-4, are one of two teams with four losses that are ranked (Clemson, also 7-4, is ranked No. 24).

From CBS Sports: There is simply no reason for the four-loss Volunteers to be ranked. They have been blown out in each of their previous two games — against No. 9 Missouri and No. 1 Georgia, respectively — and lost three of their last five dating back to the 34-20 loss to No. 8 Alabama on Oct. 21. Plus, the fourth loss was to a Florida team that has yet to reach bowl eligibility. The rushing attack, which was the strength of the Volunteers for the majority of the season, has fallen off of a cliff over the last two weeks. Simply put, there's nothing about this team that suggests that it's remotely close to being a top 25 team. Conspiracy theory: It's almost like the committee wants to keep SEC teams in the rankings to boost higher-profile teams in the conference.

It's tough to argue with CBS on this one. I think even most Vols fans were surprised to see Tennessee at No. 21 (or even in the top 25 at all).

I'm not typically a big conspiracy guy, but CBS might be on the right track with their take. Tennessee at No. 21 makes Alabama, Missouri, and Georgia's wins against the Vols look a bit better.

While the Vols probably shouldn't be ranked this high, it's still a good thing for the perception of the program. Simply being ranked keeps Tennessee somewhat relevant on the national level as the early signing period in December approaches.
