Injuries to major players will have the Cincinnati Bengals fighting tooth and nail to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend. Fortunately, they picked an ideal time to wear special threads.
The Bengals will be wearing their alternate orange jerseys and black pants Sunday for the 12th time ever. Per Pro Football Network's Jay Morrison, the Bengals are 10-1 in that combination.
The Bengals first debuted their orange jerseys 20 seasons ago back in 2004, the first year of their previous uniform design that was then redone back in 2021. The team normally wore the orange jerseys with their white pants, and only occasionally donned the black pants in the 2000s before completely going away from that combo in the early 2010s.
In 2016, the Bengals brought back the orange and black permutation against the Philadelphia Eagles in a 32-14 win that snapped a three-game losing skid at the time. They haven't lost a game in this jersey-pants tandem since then, including two major victories over the Kansas City Chiefs in the past two years.
The uniform combo is especially memorable against the Steelers. In 2020, the Bengals pulled off a huge upset over their Ohio River rivals wearing the uniform despite having Ryan Finley at quarterback. A year later, the Bengals blew out the Steelers again and forced three turnovers from Ben Roethlisberger in his final game against them.
Can the Bengals recreate that Finley magic again? Wearing the same uniform certainly can't hurt.
