The move that was inevitable for a week has finally transpired as Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was officially placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday.
Burrow's season-ending wrist injury opened up a spot on the active roster, which was granted rookie running back Chase Brown. The Bengals' fifth round pick spent the previous four weeks on I.R. with a hamstring injury, and was cleared to practice this week.
Cincinnati has also elevated quarterback AJ McCarron from the practice squad to be the backup QB for Jake Browning.
With Burrow and Brown switching spots on the active roster and I.R., the Bengals exclusively have players out for the remainder of the season on I.R.
McCarron is classified as a standard elevation. As a practice squad player being elevated to the active roster for the game, he automatically will revert to the practice squad on Monday.
The Bengals may end up signing McCarron to the active roster in the coming weeks. He can elevated off the practice squad two more times, and there are six games remaining in the season after this week. The Bengals currently have just Browning at QB on the active roster, and will eventually have to create a new opening to sign McCarron.
