Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Amari Cooper wanted Joe Flacco in town after Deshaun Watson went down with a season-ending injury.
He was asked on Friday by reporters what he thought of the idea when news first broke. His answer was simple.
Cooper described the shrood move by the Cleveland front office to add a veteran as insurance for rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson as a "phenomenal idea."
Heading into Sunday's matchup with the streaking Denver Broncos, Thompson-Robinson is the starter. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski let as much be known early in the lead-up to the consequential Week 12 matchup.
It appears the Browns are fully embracing life without Watson. And that is for the best. With Watson's inconsistencies, Cleveland was already prepared for post-Watson life. After Thompson-Robinson got his first win in Week 11, the anxiety of whether this version of the Browns can win playing ball control football is gone.
Cleveland knows it can win with defense. The quarterback room needs to control the game and limit turnovers. With Flacco, P.J. Walker, or Thompson-Robinson — the Browns are in competent hands.
Cooper appears to think so.
