Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart pulled off a subtle troll job before playing the Tennessee Vols that flew under the radar.
The week before the Bulldogs' game against the Vols earlier this season, Smart named offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, defensive lineman Zion Logue, and wide receiver Ladd McConkey as captains for the game.
Logue and Ratledge were both born in Tennessee, while McConkey and Ratledge both grew up cheering for UT.
"How about us three all being captains this week," said Ratledge during an episode of Real Talk that was released earlier this month.
"That's gotta be a little trollish," added Ratledge (who also noted that his sister is a student at Tennessee).
I'd say Kirby definitely knew what he was doing by naming those three players as team captains for a game in Neyland (which is why Kirby is such a great motivator).
Also in the episode, which you can see above, McConkey details his recruitment and how Tennessee told him that they were full at the wide receiver position, but they told him to keep the Vols in mind on signing day if anything changed.
McConkey said he would've committed on the spot if he had received an offer from Tennessee, but that offer never came. The Vols signed Jalin Hyatt, Malachi Wideman, Jimmy Holiday, and Jimmy Calloway during that recruiting cycle.
Hyatt is the only one of those wide receivers that didn't transfer out of Tennessee.
McConkey, meanwhile, played a key role for the Georgia offense over the last couple of seasons and he's been projected as a second-round pick in recent mock drafts.

How does that even happen?!?!
