The NFL has promoted an interesting iniciative to strengthen the pipeline of diverse candidates for leadership roles around the league, and two Green Bay Packers representatives will be a part of it. From December 11 to 13, two rising front office executives will take part in the Front Office & General Manager Accelerator Program at the league meeting in Dallas, Texas.

They are director of pro personnel Richmond Williams and player personnel executive Lee Gissendaner.

"The NFL is committed to improving diversity throughout the league, and a large part of that is providing leadership opportunities to diverse candidates," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "The Accelerator Program provides our clubs and owners an opportunity to connect directly with some of the finest candidates in the league who they may not know. Our intent is that these efforts translate into more diversity in leadership roles across the League."

Candidates will participate in personal and professional development programming, including practice interviews led by former general managers and leadership sessions from outside experts. Personal development workshops have been included to focus on candidates' overall wellness and mental preparedness when applying for roles.

The NFL has provided more opportunities over the last couple of years, including the addition of compensatory draft picks for teams that develop minority head coaches and general managers.

Richmond Williams' first opportunity with the Packers came as a scouting intern during training camp in 2007. He was hired in 2012 as a college scout, than moved to pro scout. He's been the director of pro personnel since 2019, taking care of scouting other teams around the NFL and minor leagues, like the XFL, USFL, and CFL.

During this time, the Packers have added interesting veterans, like Rasul Douglas, De'Vondre Campbell, and Keisean Nixon.

Lee Gissendaner has been with the Packers for most of the time since 1998. At first, he was a national scouting service representative, then was hired as an area scout. He briefly left Green Bay to be an area scout for the New York Jets between 2015 and 2017, but returned to the Packers in 2018 to be the player personnel executive under Brian Gutekunst.
