The Green Bay Packers have waived two offensive players who had been promoted to the active 53-man roster last week. Running back James Robinson and wide receiver Bo Melton were released and didn't practice on Monday.
Robinson and Melton played against the Detroit Lions last Thursday. They had been promoted from the practice squad because the Packers were struggling to have enough players with many injuries.
Bo Melton played two offensive snaps and six special teams snaps, while Robinson was active but didn't see the field.
Why they made it
After the moves, the Packers have two open spots on the 53-man roster. They will potentially be used to activate safety Darnell Savage and cornerback Eric Stokes.
Savage was designated to return from injured reserve last week, and Stokes was designated on Monday. They haven't been activated yet, but both have a shot at playing next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Robinson and Melton may or may not be signed back to the practice squad, but they have to clear waivers before that — and that's why they couldn't practice.
Absences at practice
Besides James Robinson and Bo Melton, three other players did not practice on Monday. Running back Aaron Jones went through stretch before practice, but stayed inside when the rest of the roster went to team activities. Fellow running back AJ Dillon and tight end Josiah Deguara didn't practice either.
Better news
WR Dontayvion Wicks, CB Jaire Alexander, S Rudy Ford and LB De'Vondre Campbell, who didn't play against the Lions last week, were all back at practice, a good sign for their availability to play next Sunday. All four were listed as questionable to play on Thanksgiving, but ended up inactivated for the game.
